Companies and industries rely on Kelley Drye’s trade policy group to protect their interests and expand their opportunities.
We operate at the intersection of trade law and public policy to advocate for clients where trade policy is debated and established—in the halls of Congress and before Executive Branch agencies. In fact, we’ve worked on every major trade bill and international trade negotiation of the last 40 years.
Our bipartisan team collaborates to provide legal and policy advice to clients and to ensure that government officials hear the positions of the companies, industries and organizations we represent.
“The firm’s in-depth knowledge of the U.S. political system and legislation and its strong contacts with legislative staff are a real attraction.”
– Client feedback, Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business
We help clients remain competitive by promoting fair trade through the enforcement of international trade laws and agreements, as well as fight barriers to trade in a variety of international markets. We advocated on behalf of several industries before the executive branch regarding implementation of Section 232 and Section 301 tariffs and engaged on behalf of those industries during the negotiation and implementation of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). We represented client interests during the authorization of trade preference programs such as the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP), the Miscellaneous Tariff Bill (MTB) and the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) and continue to advocate as Congress considers these laws currently. All these measures provide opportunities for U.S. companies and industries engaged in international trade to remain competitive globally and are critical to preserving U.S. jobs and bolstering the U.S. economy.
Our team includes several attorneys with more than four decades of work on federal trade policy, including several former Senate and House staff members; a former White House Senior Director for International Trade, Energy, and Environment; a former international trade counsel to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means; and leading international trade practitioners who assist clients on matters vital to their international business.
