  • Is It Over Yet?: Navigating the Third Year of the U.S. Trade Wars
Over the last two years, the Trump administration has deployed widespread tariffs as a means of getting trading partners - including China and the EU - to the negotiating table. A phase one trade deal was reached between the U.S. and China in December, but what does that mean for manufacturers and retailers in 2020? Does this deal offer the relief the industry seeks, and will the U.S. and China ultimately reach a deal that rolls back all tariffs? Is there potential for expansion and tariff increases on products from the EU, and what other countries may be in the U.S. crosshairs? Partner Larry Lasoff and special counsel Jennifer McCadney of Kelley Drye’s International Trade practice will discuss current U.S. trade agreement issues, including the ongoing China negotiations; Report on what steps importers have taken to avoid or reduce the impact of tariffs; and Look to the future to analyze what a potential end to the trade war could mean for the fashion and retail industries.
  • When Politics is In Vogue: How to Keep the Election Out of Your Workplace
The 2020 elections, impeachment and foreign intrigue: as the old saying goes, we are cursed with living in interesting times. Employees’ interest and engagement in politics means they will be talking politics in the workplace—but are employers ready to address issues relating to political speech at work? Kelley Drye’s Labor and Employment practice co-chairs Barbara Hoey and Mark Konkel will address the pitfalls and how to avoid them when politics come to work, including when talking politics can turn into discrimination and harassment, proper handling of social media statements, how to ensure harmony in divisive times, and related issues.
